On March 3rd at 3 pm The Great Course will begin a new series which will run for 36 weeks. "The World Was Never The Same: Events That Changed History." taught by our favorite lecturer, the ever entertaining and wise Professor Rufus Fears of the University of Oklahoma.
Session one begins with a look at the creation of the Hammurabi Code of law, with its concepts of minimum wage, family law and victim's rights. The code provided many fundamental elements that can still be found in today's legal systems.
Over the 36 weeks the course will touch on such events as: the development of monotheism and Moses, the birth of democracy, the sparks of the enlightenment, the fundamentals of Buddhism, the thoughts to Confucius, the rise of the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages and on to modern times with the stock market crash and two world wars. The course ends with a lecture on Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech and all that followed.
Each lecture is discrete and complete. Participants do NOT need to attend the lecture before or after to understand and enjoy the lecture of the day. Each 1/2 hour lecture is followed by a group discussion.
No need to register. Just show up!
Co-sponsored by: The Lancaster Downtowners and the Landis Homes.
