The Indian Steps Museum in York, PA, (205 Indian Steps Road, Airville, PA) was established between 1908 and 1912 by John Edward Vandersloot as an Arts and Crafts style cabin along the Susquehanna River. Named for Indigenous riverbed footholds, the building features roughly 10,000 local stone artifacts embedded directly into its walls.
Key features include a Kiva Room modeled after Southwestern Pueblo council chambers, J. Horace Rudy stained-glass panels depicting Seneca life, and exhibits tracing local Native American history from 16,000 B.C. through the Contact Period.
Museum Visit and Brown Bag Lunch.
Registrants will meet at Community Mennonite Church parking lot to form carpools. (Registrants will be contacted prior to the event for volunteers to drive.) Upon arrival at the museum, we will enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds (bring your own brown bag lunch) before our museum tour. Your $9 registration fee includes general admission plus a hands on archeological demonstration prepared just for our group.
