Plarn Making

Fold, cut, and twist plastic bags into yarn to be crocheted. No experience required, but please bring a pair of sharp scissors.

You may have read a recent LNP article about Risa Paskoff, who has spent time working with refugees at the border and plans to take a group with her at the end of March to work with asylum-seekers detained on the Mexican side.  Risa is interested in taking along mats made from recycled plastic grocery bags to donate to those who may need them.  See video:

If you're interested in helping, there are three things you can do:

1) (No skill needed:) Save clean, white, plastic grocery bags between now and January 31.  You can drop them off at the Downtowners office.

And/or . . .

2) (Very little skill needed) Attend this "plarn party" at the office on February 3rd to fold and cut bags and twist them into "plarn balls" ready for crocheting.

And/or . . .

3. (Beginner skill plus large crochet hook needed) On your own time, use plarn balls to crochet a mat.  Or two.  By mid-March.
