What is a Village?
What Is a Village?
Villages are membership-driven, grassroots communities that provide a social support network and a comprehensive approach to supporting older people who wish to remain thriving in their home community throughout retirement. Villages may be completely volunteer run or rely on paid staff, but
the goal is to be a one-stop shop for members in that community to age successfully in their homes. Villages provide connections to resources, may arrange discounts with services providers, and offer volunteer services. They are also a significant source of social and educational opportunities. These hyperlocal groups are fit to their own environments and members as a hub for fellowship and an exchange of ideas.
The
Village to Village Network
is a national organization that collaborates to maximize
the growth, impact and sustainability of individual Villages and the Village Movement by providing resources, guidance and support. The Lancaster Downtowners are one of over 200 villages in the network.
