Walking Tour: African American Experience In Lancaster

On this two hour guided tour, led by Downtowner Randy Harris, you will learn about the early days of the African American experience in the City of Lancaster and the wider community. The tour explores the period immediately following the American Revolution, when an increasing number of people of African descent fled enslavement in the South and found some areas of Lancaster County welcoming and supportive of their situation..

This special tour for Downtowners will cover most of the same sites and stories as those that are explored on the tours conducted on the first Saturdays of the month, organized by the African American historical society of south central Pennsylvania. This tour was developed in part by our guide.

There will be a $5 donation collected at the beginning of the tour which will go to the  African-American Historical Society of South Central PA.
